Interest Rates Equalisation System, also using Brazilian Treasury Resources for equalisation, to allow better conditions of finance for national goods in a global market. The equalisation consists in the difference between the charges agreed to by the borrower and the cost of raising funds, limited to maximum reference rates previously determined by Banco Central do Brazil BACEN Brazilian Central Bank ; . Interest equalisation ranges from a 1% support for credits upto 6 months to as much as 2.5% differential for periods of 9 years. The interest equalisations is paid by means of Government bonds.

Hen I was asked to write an upbeat article for New Pathways, describing my scuba diving and tall ship adventures, I was happy to do so. However, I didn't really believe that it would have an impact on readers. How wrong I was! I was surprised and flattered when I received Hayley's letter and delighted that someone had found the article 'inspirational', her words, not mine. ; Of course I replied. I wondered what Hayley looked like. When she agreed to come and visit me I was excited and nervous. I knew that I liked her and felt that I knew her before I even laid eyes on her. When we met and got on as well as we had on the phone, I knew that I had to see her again. We were such a good fit that I decided that I wanted to spend as much time with her as possible. Within a couple of weeks of meeting Hayley in April, I knew that I wanted to marry her if only.
At least three developments mark the beginning of the fourth decade of a2-autoreceptor research. First, it has been detected that the operation of presynaptic a2-autoinhibition is a prerequisite for the facilitation of noradrenaline release by angiotensin II and bradykinin, and interruption of ongoing autoinhibition was defined as a new mode of presynaptic facilitation. Second, it has been recognized that the third a2-subtype, a2B, also may function as an autoreceptor, at least when the a2A and a2C genes have been disrupted. Third, an a2C-adrenoceptor polymorphism with hypofunctional a2Cautoreceptors has been revealed as a risk factor for congestive heart failure. REFERENCES.

ABSTRACT Bone-remodeling markers have been proposed to monitor antiosteoporotic therapy, as substantial changes in these markers usually occur in a relatively short time interval. In this study we have evaluated the short term effects of two bisphosphonates on bone-remodeling markers with the aim of 1 ; defining the shortest reliable time interval after which markers should be measured, and 2 ; comparing the effects of different bisphophonates. To do so, 74 postmenopausal women with a lumbar spine t score of at least 1 were randomly allocated to 4 different treatments: calcium carbonate 500 mg day; n 18 ; , 5 mg day alendronate A5; n 18 ; , 10 mg day alendronate A10; n 20 ; , and cyclical etidronate CE; n 18 ; . Serum and 24-h urine samples were collected at baseline and 14, 28, 56, and 84 days after the beginning of therapy. Type I collagen N-terminal NTx ; and C-terminal CTx ; telopeptides and total deoxypyridinoline tDPD ; were measured in urine and normalized for urinary creatinine excretion. Osteocalcin and bone alkaline phosphatase in serum were measured. Alendronate at both doses ; and CE significantly decreased bone-remodeling markers, whereas calcium carbonate did not. Bone resorption markers reduction reached a plateau 14 A10 ; or 28 A5 and CE ; days after the beginning of treatment, whereas osteocalcin and bone alkaline phosphatase were significantly reduced at 56 A10 ; and 84 CE ; days. The global effects of alendronate and CE on NTx and CTx calculated as the area under the curve ; were significantly different from those of calcium P 0.05 ; , but were not significantly different from each other. The percent change from baseline obtained with tDPD, NTx, or CTx during bisphosphonate treatment were significantly different P 0.05 ; , but this difference disappeared when the variability in the calcium carbonate group was taken into account. In conclusion, this study shows that 1 ; etidronate and alendronate induce a significant and rapid reduction in boneremodeling markers; 2 ; the changes in NTx, CTx, and tDPD urinary excretions reach a plateau after 2 4 wk treatment; and 3 ; short term treatments with CE or alendronate induce similar changes in the urinary excretion of NTx and CTx. 19 2.4 Platoon Characteristic A vehicle platoon is defined as a group of vehicles travelling together in the Highway Capacity Manual HCM ; TRB, 1998 ; . In order to define a vehicle platoon temporally and spatially, Jiang, Li and Shamo 2002 ; revealed that major parameters of the vehicle platoon characteristics include platoon headway, inter-platoon headway, platoon size and platoon speed should be selected as fundamental variables. Platoon behaviours and distribution patterns could be identified with respect to these parameters. It is of great importance to select a proper value of the critical headway since a small change in the critical headway will generate tremendous changes in the resultant platoon characteristics Jiang, Li and Shamo, 2002 ; . The value of critical headway can be determined based on the traffic data collected at selected intersections. May 1965 ; investigated individual headway distributions and concluded that vehicle headways were rarely less than 0.5 seconds or over 10 seconds at different traffic volumes. Athol 1965 ; investigated the effects of critical headways of 1.2, 1.5, 2.1 and 2.7 seconds on platoon behaviour and selected a critical headway of 2.1 seconds corresponding to a traffic volume of 1500 vehicles per hour per lane vphpl ; . A study by Jiang, Li and Shamo 2002 ; investigated approximately 30, 000 headway measurements at the selected Indiana intersections in order to identify an appropriate critical headway. The critical headway values of 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, and 3.5 seconds were examine. Therefore, 2.5 second is utilized as the proper value of critical headway for platoon determination in the data analysis. Prediction of platoon size and dispersion is important for determining the traffic arrivals at downstream intersections to assess the need for signal coordination and to optimize the signal timing plans in coordinated signal systems Geroliminis and Skabardonis, 2005!

On Monday, October 16, the AUA Board of Directors, staff, family and friends gathered at the AUA Headquarters in Linthicum, Maryland to dedicate the executive boardroom to G. James Gallagher, who led the organization for more than 18 years. Mr. Gallagher passed away in August 2005, shortly after his retirement from the organization. More than 100 guests attended the dedication, including AUA past presidents and former board members. During Jim's tenure the AUA flourished to become the preeminent urological educational organization that it is today. Through his efforts the AUA grew in budget, size and status, and secured a membership of more than 15, 000 worldwide. Known professionally for his quick wit and sound business approach, Jim was a mainstay of the AUA for nearly 2 decades. With AUA's volunteer leadership he was responsible for establishing several key departments including Government Affairs, Guidelines, Practice Management, Industry Relations and the Office of Research. Other notable accomplishments during his tenure included acquiring ownership of The Journal of Urology from its commercial publisher; overseeing record increases in domestic and international attendance at the annual scientific meeting; relocating and assimilating the Office of Education into the new headquarters; leading and directing the land purchase, design and construction of the new headquarters building in Linthicum, Maryland; and facilitating the absorption of the American Foundation for Urologic Disease and its rebirth as the AUA Foundation. Throughout all of these important achievements, Jim remained a "people person" with a personal interest in AUA staff, encouraging continuing education and career growth. Furthermore, he was an advisor, mentor and friend to many of our members and to the AUA Board of Directors, who admired Jim's breadth of talent and business acumen. Given Jim's numerous contributions to the AUA and urology, the Board of Directors and staff wanted to ensure that his legacy and dedication to urology were memorialized in AUA history. The Board determined that in light of Jim's leadership and contributions, it was only fitting that the AUA dedicate its executive boardroom in his honor. Additionally, Jim's business legacy, advocacy of urology and contributions to the AUA will live on through the creation of an annual G. James.

Soil in a greenhouse. No seedlings have appeared, but a long rest period may be demanded and the seed may yet germinate. EXPERIMENTS WITH DIVIDED RHIZOMES. In the spring of 1902, 40 plants were secured and planted under a shade of temporary character, but the season was too far advanced to permit of much growth during that year. In 1903, proper shade was supplied, all other conditions were better, and the plants made a good growth. The crop was dug about the middle of November 1903; the roots were weighed and divided. They were again planted and in May, 1904, there were found to be 150 strong plants and a few smaller ones as a result of this division, an increase of 275 per cent. This method of propagation seems to be the most important and the other two of second importance. The processes are simple and no skill is needed. The plant dies down in late summer and the stem decays, leaving a scar in its place on the rhizome. Two or more buds are formed on the sides of the rhizome and these accumulate energy for growth the following spring. If the root is cut in as many pieces as there are buds, giving each plant a portion of the rhizome, some fibrous roots, and one or more buds, the number of the plants can be doubled. The roots are planted and mulched and the process is complete. The rains pack the soil around the roots and they are ready to grow when spring comes. The process may be repeated every year and the number of roots increased indefinitely. The stronger fibrous roots of the larger plants dug in the autumn of 1903 were formed. from a few inches to a foot from the rhizome. Some were about half an inch long, but the majority of them were smaller. The larger ones need no special treatment and may be planted with the main crop. The smaller ones should be planted in boxes or beds of well prepared soil, at a distance of about 3 inches apart, mulched with a thin coating of leaf mold or similar material, and grown in shade until large enough to transplant to the shelter with the larger plants. They will probably require at least three years to reach their full development. If they could be left undisturbed in the beds where they are formed they would receive nourishment from the older rhizomes and perhaps grow faster, but it is probably best to divide the older roots every year where propagation alone is desired, planting the smaller roots and the plants made by division of the rhizomes. The larger roots are marketed to more.

PHOSPHORYLATION OF PRE-FUSION MYOBLAST MYOSIN INCREASES ACTIN-ACTIVATION S.P ordilis and R.S.Adelstein, Sect. on Molec. Cardiology, NHLBI NIH, Bethesda, Md. 20014 Pre-fusion rat myoblasts Yaffe L-5 ; in culture contain both myosin and myosin light chain kinase MLCK ; . This myosin is of the cytoplasmic type i.e., the light chains are 20, 000 and 15, 000 daltons ; . The myoblast MLCK catalyzes the incorporation of up to one mole of phosphate into one mole of the 20, 000 dalton light chain of myoblast myosin. This MLCK is of the cytoplasmic type, in that it does not require Ca2 + for activity, whereas the muscle type of MLCK does require Ca2 + . These two types of MLCKs were studied using isolated denatured light chains from myosins3, f human platelets PLT ; , canine cardiac CCM ; and rabbit psoas RSM ; muscle. Using MgAT P, the rates of phosphate incorporation into the light chains catalyzed by the pre-fusion myoblast MLCK were PLT CM? RSM, whereas the rates catalyzed by the rabbit psoas MLCK were RSM CCM PLT. The same site on the PLT light chain is phosphorylated by both the cytoplasmic and muscle MLCKs. This is suggested by the inability of the cytoplasmic MLCK to phosphorylate PLT light chains which were already phosphorylated by the muscle MLCK, even though the cytoplasmic MLCK could phosphorylate PLT light chains not incubated with the muscle MLCK under identical conditions. Unphosphorylated pre-fusion myoblast myosin showed no actin-activation of the low salt 0.017 M KC1 ; myosin ATPase; the specific activity without actin was 0.018 pIM Pi mg myoF-PM-A9 and etodolac.
