2000-2001 Business Report CSL Bioplasma maintained a strong sales revenue position in the year achieving a 0.3 million result. It is also anticipated that due to new donor initiatives being introduced by the Australian Red Cross Blood Service ARCBS ; , blood donation levels should continue to improve next year. Since CSL's acquisition of ZLB Bioplasma AG in August 2000, there has been significant focus on the successful integration of the activities of CSL Bioplasma and ZLB. As a result of synergies that emerged from the integration process, CSL Bioplasma operations have been restructured to create a sharper focus on profitable activities and to reduce costs. Some of the joint initiatives we are now working on with ZLB will bring significant opportunities for international growth and pentasa.

Down through the ages Lavender has been one of the mainstays in the garden, and with good reason. They mainly originate from around the Mediterranean coast and those of you who have been there know how hot and dry it is. It should come as no shock then to realise that Lavenders thrive in hot, dry positions. If your lavender is not doing well try cutting back on the water! There are many uses for Lavender, dried flowers used in pot -pourri or dried stems hung in the house have a long lasting aroma. Lavender oil is the basis of most good perfume and is renowned for its calmative properties, petals can be used in cooking or simply as a magnificent shrub in the garden, the uses seem endless. For many years Lavender was used to repel moths, heres an ancient mixture that will repel moths and add a wonderful fragrance to your cloths and bedroom. Mix a handful each of dried Lavender, rosemary, thyme, pennyroyal and a few cloves and sew into muslin bag, then place in the bottom of your wardrobe. Guess what? Apart from the cloves you can get everything right here! Few plants can match the versatility of Lavender in the garden, hedges, boarders, accent plants, foliage contrast, fragrance, colour or just a beautiful flowering shrub, their uses are only limited by your imagination. Lavenders seem to flower forever , have next to no pests, and apart from a trim every now and then, require no maintance. From the aromatic dwarf ` Munstead' to the free flowering `Sidonie' theres a Lavender to suit every garden. Following are only a few of the varieties available. `Munstead' dwarf English Lavender Ideal as boarders along pathways or a small hedge, it flowers profusely and is one of the best for perfume. It grows to about 60cm and needs a haircut after flowering. Dwarf Pink English Lavender A lovely pink variety with much the same habit as `Munstead' but a bit smaller 50cm ; . Again ideal as a small hedge or boarder, the flower spikes are white in bud and a pretty pale pink when open. It flowers from spring to autumn and has beaut aromatic silvery foliage when young. White English Lavender Dense grey green aromatic foliage with upright stems of white flowers from spring till autumn. Grows to 60cm, again an ideal small hedge or boarder. English Lavender; The smelly one The full size English Lavender, grows to 60cm high and wide. English Lavander is the most fragrant of all the Lavenders and is used commercially to extract oils for perfume. Ideal as a backdrop plant in cottage gardens, fragrance, or as a medium hedge- stunning. French Lavender; Lavandula dentata Taller growing than English Lavender 110cm ; it makes a stunning garden plant or medium hedge. Whilst not as highly perfumed as English it more than makes up with a stunning floral display. `Marshwood' Lavendula stoeches A new form of Spanish Lavender, grows to about the same size as English. Its main claim to fame is an outstanding floral display with deep mauve flowers over eight months.' Marshwood' also has very fragrant foliage. `Sidonie' the first Australian Lavender; This fast growing shrub features tall elegant stems with rich violet flowers surrounded with soft feathery foliage. As well as its unique appearance this plant has a distinct aroma making it a pleasant addition to pot -pourri and cut flower arrangements. All Lavenders have aromatic leaves which makes them perfect boarders by a pathway. The idea is to plant them close to the path so as to brush past them which releases the aroma from the leaves, many claim this has a very calmative effect.Lavenders require a well drained spot in the full sun and a light trim after flowering, being careful not to cut into any old wood. Because Lavenders flower for such a long period you may find yourself cutting off flowers, don't despair, use the flowers dried, your doing the plant a lot of good!

Fresh water resources are becoming more valuable as population increases and homes and industry place a major burden on both our surface and groundwater supplies. The search for ways to responsibly conserve and recycle water is vital to the sustainability of the water supply and the future of many urban and rural communities. Therefore the concept of separating out the greywater from a dwelling's wastewater stream and using it to supplement the family's water demand is becoming increasingly appealing to the community. Old Broome Estate will be a leading example of water efficiency in regional WA with a focus on greywater reuse. The volume of greywater is usually about 50% or 60% of all wastewater. The average dwelling in Australia based on 3.3 persons per dwelling ; uses 337 kilolitres of water per year or approximately 900 litres each day for internal and external uses. Garden watering is usually the largest portion of household water use. If the potable water used for garden watering is replaced by another water source, such as appropriately treated greywater, then there could be a saving of up to 50% of a household's average water use. Greywater is broadly defined as untreated household wastewater that has not come in contact with toilet wastewater. For most households the prime sources of greywater are from the laundry, bathroom shower, bathtub and hand basin. These greywater streams can be effectively reused by means of primary greywater systems which can be installed for less than , 000. Kitchen wastewater is generally not included in the greywater because it has been demonstrated that wastewater from the kitchen sink and dishwasher is heavily contaminated. However, a secondary greywater treatment system such as an Aerobic Treatment Unit ATU ; can successfully recycle all greywater as well as blackwater. At Old Broome Estate residents are recommended to reuse all greywater from laundry, bathroom shower, bathtub and hand basin. An ATU should be installed if kitchen wastewater is to be recycled. An ATU will cost up to , 000 to be installed. At Old Broome Estate toilet wastewater blackwater ; will go to the sewer where it will be transported to the Broome sewage lagoons. Kitchen wastewater should also be diverted to sewer unless an ATU is installed. The Shire of Broome currently recycles the treated effluent from the lagoons for irrigation of parks. At Old Broome Estate the lower cost simpler primary greywater systems used for subsurface irrigation are recommended. The approved list of systems is provided in this brochure. The use of recycled products is an integral part of ecosystem management, restoring the natural cycles that occur in nature i.e. "Closing the Loop". However, due to the potential for disease transmission and environmental impacts from pollutants present in greywater the approved process for permitting safe, low maintenance systems will be followed at Old Broome Estate. More information is available at ourwaterfuture .au. The aim of this brochure is to provide builders and householders at Old Broome Estate with some background and guidance on greywater reuse principles and practice to ensure the recommended installation of at least a primary greywater system can proceed smoothly and in accordance with the WA statutory requirements.

All infested pet bedding. Remove and clean up all harborage debris; vacuum or steam all insects, spiders and or mites; remove all rodent nests; caulk all cracks and crevices; vent and cover all crawls; routinely and thoroughly clean with Safe Solutions, Inc. Enzyme Cleaner with or without Peppermint and or borax. 4. Outdoor control. Begin with sanitation, e.g., debris removal; keep the grass and weeds mowed; trim all branches that touch or overhang the building; remove all old bird nests from the structure, and eliminate any alternate hosts and their harborage within 100 yards of the structure. Sanitation is followed by the application of diluted Safe Solutions, Inc. protease ; enzyme cleaners with or without peppermint or other Pestisafes, e.g., talcum powder, food-grade diatomaceous earth DE ; , peppermint soap, Vaseline, freshly ground pepper, menthol rub and or Tide soap. Application may range from spot application along the exterior foundation wall and adjacent perimeter band treatment to whole yard treatment depending on the imminent danger to humans. Wettable powder and microencapsulated pesticide formu lations can be effective, if absolutely necessary but, as in the case of all volatile, synthetic pesticide poisons, there is an obvious risk of contamination of wells, air, pets and people whenever they are used. Be sure there is no other alternative and all Pestisafes have been tried first! 5. The best treatment for insect bites and stings is to avoid them in the first place. If practical, wear 2 layers of clothing, avoid floral prints, hair spray, perfumes and shiny jewelry. The color blue is the preferred color of mosquitoes; wear white, tan and or light green clothing. Routinely shower with peppermint soap. Try orally taking 3 - 4 garlic capsules and Vitamin B and nutritional yeast daily. Avoid eating sugars, alcohol, tropical fruits and juices. Thread a sprig of elder through your hair. To create a mosquito-free environment, boil willow in water, burn artemesia in a campfire or diffuse various combinations of the oils of citronella, eucalyp tus, pennyroyal, grape seed, almond, lavender, rosemary, tea tree, basil, geranium and or sage into the areas. You can also make a room spray with water and a few drops of these essential oils or with enzymes. Essential oils, e.g., geraniol or geranium oil and coconut oil, diluted in olive oil or aloe vera nectar or jojoba can be applied topically to pulse points on your body every hour or so to repel insects e.g., fire ants, ticks, fleas, mosquitoes, lice and gnats ; , but can be irritating to some people, so always test them on a small area of your skin first! As the odor lessens, so does the effectiveness. Try chamomile tea, thyme, sweet basil, yarrow, vanilla extract or try dilutions of camphor, tea tree, bergamot, patchouli, sandalwood, peppermint oil, Guatemalan lemon grass, lavender, cedar wood and pennyroyal Mentha pulegium ; individually or as blends. Pennyroyal's Latin name means mint and flea and the plant and smoke from its burning leaves help control these pests, but avoid mint plants if you are pregnant or sensitive. Other essential oils that can be made and used as repellents include menthol, citronella, eucalyptus, gera nium and okra but they can stain clothing; do not drink them and be careful around your eyes and mouth when applying them. See Natural Plant Caution, Chapter 19, Fleas. 6. If bitten, leave the immediate, and if the bite is considered serious, go to a physician immediately, but first remove the stinger and cleanse the area as soon as possible . If you are not sensitive, you can ingest homeopathic Apis mellifica and rub an apis-based cream or a little epsom salt water or enzyme cleaner on the wound every 15 minutes until relief arrives. You can also apply echinacea tincture to the sting area and take it internally to help reduce allergic reactions and other immunologyical disturbances. If the bite sting feels better when cold is applied or the area is already cold and or numb, use homeopathic ledum. Ice alleviates pain and swelling and mud or clay, fresh garlic, onion juice, witch hazel, baking soda or meat tenderizer paste eases itching and aching. Baking soda is an alkali that neutralizes acid. Applied to the skin it acts to reduce pain and swelling, draws out toxins and helps neutralize some of the inflammatory agents in the toxins. ; Meat tenderizer is made from papain, an enzyme derived from papaya and helps break down the inflammatory properties of venom. That is why protease enzyme cleaners and shampoos also work. ; Various herbs rubbed into insect bites may also accelerate healing: ground-up comfey, sweet basil, tea tree oil a powerful wound healer and germicide ; , olive oil, marigold, yellow dock, wild marjoram, leek bulbs, crushed parsley or plaintain and or the leaves of rue, St. John's wort, plantain, house leek, aloe and pennyroyal. Apply calendula petals on a bee sting. Wasp stings are best treated with any wild mallow flower or freshly chewed or crushed plaintain leaves, slices of onion or garlic or vinegar applied topically, accompanied by an internal dose of homeopathic vespa. Taking vitamin C and panthothenic acid over a period of 3 - 4 hours helps create a natural antihistamine effect, thus reducing swelling. The enzymes bromelain and quercitin also help reduce inflammation. If you are upset try taking a calming flower remedy under the tongue every 10 minutes until you settle down. If you are allergic to bee stings, get medical attention immediately. Spray the site with Not Nice to Skin Irritations. Your own urine on a cloth has antibodies that can neutralize an insect's venom. Apply pulped or crushed leaves of wormwood, rue or sage to alleviate the pain of scorpians, spiders or jellyfish, but some people may be sensitive, especially to wormwood or rue. Increase your intake of vitamin C and you receive antiinflammatory effects and boost 747 and percodan.
